The Homestead saw the planning light of day way back in 1966 when 14 acres of land at Solway was purchased.  It took some time for the various resource consents and design to be approved and thus it was not until September 1971 that the Homestead opened. 

The restaurant at the Homestead has gone through a number of forms over the years.  The original very successful family bistro changed later on into more a night club and then to Rory’s restaurant.  The Cobb & Co involvement began first in 1992.  The public bar remains largely unchanged since opening, except for moving the Gaming machines in 2008.
